Archive for the 'Writing' CategoryThesis Essay Writing Guidelines Every Student Ought to KnowWriting a thesis essay is one of the challenges that students face in their academic life. The main reason why so many students dread writing a thesis essay is its baffling complexity, which is hard to handle at times. However, writing a thesis essay can be much easier, if you already know how it should be written. And the secret formula of writing a high quality thesis essay is incredibly simple: all you need is to understand the initial purpose of thesis essays and follow the tips for thesis essay structure that you’ll find below. 1.Thesis Essay Peculiarity Thesis essay is an essay elaborating on the original research and arguing a specific point of view. It requires an argumentative topic on which you have a strong opinion and want to prove it by means of research findings and information analysis. To put it in other way, thesis essay is a scientifically-minded piece of writing. Consequently, a thesis essay is much more demanding than the rest of essays. It demands responsibility, analytical skills, ability to summarise, compare, and contrast. In order to write a high-quality thesis essay you need to be persuasive and able to prove your case no matter what. 2.Thesis Essay Topic Thesis essay topic requires tender treatment. To choose the one that is your best bet, stick to the following: 1. the topic must be to your liking, that is you must have strong feelings on its account and hold a solid point of view as far as the solution of this problem goes; 2. your thesis essay topic must be argumentative, ambivalent and thought-provoking; 3. your thesis essay topic should not be widely researched and be on everybody’s lips. On the contrary, it must be a problem that is not known to the public at large and still is concerns us very much. Get down to choosing a thesis essay topic with these tips in mind, and you will find one truly argumentative and interesting. 3.Thesis Essay Structure Thesis essay structure must be carefully thought over, since it is the foundation on which you build your proposition and prove your rightness. With a proper thesis essay structure you will create the necessary impression on the readers and make them reject their own views and stick to your point. Your thesis essay structure should be like this: 1.the introduction must include a statement of your hypothesis, which is a summary of your controversy; 2.confirmation of your hypothesis must be logically arranged: a.first, provide a short digression in the history of the problem corroborating it by the past attempts at its solution; b.analyze the problem at the present; c.prove your hypothesis by the supporting evidence you came across when researching the thesis essay topic; d.compare your hypothesis with other existing propositions and prove why yours is the best solution; 3. reinforce your thesis statement at the end of the essay by providing a persuasive summary of your thesis essay to make the readers come over to your side once and for all. This is the proven way of organising thesis essays. So, do not hesitate to use this structure in your paper. 3.The Use of Supporting Evidence As it has been previously mentioned, your hypothesis in a thesis essay needs a back up in the form of supporting evidence from reliable and relevant sources. The related sources you can use to strengthen your proposition can be: 1. past research and writings and their impact on the study; 2. facts, statistics, and the testimony of others through personal interviews and questionnaires; 3. or articles and books; 4. and examples. You do not have to conduct a deep research for your thesis essay, as you do for a research paper. All you need is to explore your topic deep enough to have a sufficient amount of evidence and proofs. However, make sure that the information you plan to use is up-to-date and is taken from reliable sources. Otherwise, it will be easy to discredit your proposition. 4.Disprove the Opposing Arguments Every hypothesis has a weak point, which, if wisely used by opponents, can destroy it all together. To avoid it, try to identify weak points of your proposition and the possible ways how they can be used by your opponents. Then find counterarguments that will rebut your antagonist’s sharp rejoinders. Try to anticipate any objections the readers may have and rebut them at once. That is all you need to know in order to write a good thesis essay. Be sure that with the above tips in mind you will easily master thesis essay writing and even come to like finding controversial topics and forming your hypothesis on its account. Thesis essay writing will no longer be a tedious burden for you. |

Archive for the 'Writing' CategoryWriting as a Way to LearnTeachers across disciplines and grade levels have discovered that writing essays and research papers can serve many purposes in the classroom. Writing-across-the-curriculum theorists suggest a variety of write-to-learn activities, from free writing in journals to summarizing class lectures to working with papers through multiple drafts. In the composition literature, support for these activities has come largely from intuitive arguments about the value of writing as a way to learn. Emig, for example, in her seminal essay “Writing as a Mode of Learning” (1977), argued that one way writing helps us learn is by forcing us to engage actively with our material. Shaughnessy (1977) suggested that this activity embeds the material more “deeply” in memory. Others have described writing as a “connective” activity, arguing that the process of writing forces us to discover and articulate relationships between what might otherwise be discrete bits of knowledge and encourages us to go beyond the text, to engage in imaginative and speculative thinking (Fulwiler, 1982). We know essay writing can enhance student learning in important and exciting ways, but we also know that the value of writing as a means for learning varies from one writing task to another, from one classroom to another, and from one student to the next. Research to date suggests four key variables in the relationship between writing and learning: the type of learning desired, the nature of the material to be learned, the nature of the writing task, and characteristics of writers themselves. Studies of writing-to-learn have defined “learning” in a number of ways. The easiest type of learning to test, of course, is simple comprehension, particularly factual recall, and most experimental studies have included measures of this sort. Results on this type of learning have been mixed. When compared with nonwriting activities such as answering multiple-choice questions, writing does appear to help students remember and use facts from their reading. However, research has demonstrated no clear advantage for extended or essay writing over shorter, more text-based writing activities when it comes to factual recall or application measures. In one of the first studies of this type, Newell (1984) compared learning gains across three writing activities: note taking, answering study questions, and essay writing. He found no effect of task on eleventh graders’ ability to recall simple facts and relationships or to answer application questions; none of the three activities consistently resulted in higher scores on these measures. In my own research with college freshmen (Penrose, 1989), custom essay writing actually led to lower factual recall and application scores when compared with a direct studying task in which students chose their own study and note-taking strategies. These few studies suggest that the benefits of writing as an aid to basic comprehension may disappear as students mature, perhaps indicating that younger students benefit from the extra concentration and time-on-task that writing activities require. As students become more familiar with academic studying, however, they develop efficient study strategies of their own. |

Archive for the 'Writing' CategoryNaked Option Writing – the Cadillac of All Option Trading StrategiesLet’s be clear on this. There is no other option trading strategy that can outshine or even equal the profit generating potential of the sport of writing naked options. The term ‘sport’ is used here because those who practice this money making trading technique not only turn out fabulous profits but also have fun in the process. It is a fun, profitable but dangerous option trading sport that is mostly played by seasoned and skilled option players. That is, until the sport’s peril’s were tamed with the use of trading techniques that, while offering substantial safeguards to the player, still continued to offer high profitability ratios, albeit at slightly reduced rates. Having made it ‘investor safe’ has only slightly altered the profit potential of writing nakeds and certainly, without doubt, continues to be the premiere money making trading strategy in the options market. The birth of the options market in recent decades spawned the creation of dozens of trading strategies and systems that is today being used not only by individual options traders but also by financial institutions. Stock options as an investment instrument is now widely employed as a safe and sound money strategy. The ability of options to give the investor a wide range of choices in stock market investment is what has made the options market grow by leaps and bounds over the last two or three decades. There are dozens of option trading systems being employed by individual investors as well as financial institutions. Each system is designed to accomplish a specific investment goal. A financial institution may use long put options to hedge its winnings in stocks that have appreciated in value, another investor may buy call options instead of stocks to enter a position in a security that has caught his fancy. Still another may sell calls against his stock holdings to generate income from his stock position, or what is now popularly known as covered call writing. Trading strategies, techniques and systems available to the option trader are so numerous today that it would take a whole book to describe each and that would be just a brief description not a detailed explanation. It would be far beyond the scope of what we could cover in this short article. Most of the strategies are based on the principle of buying calls and puts or, variations of this strategy such as the use of spreads. The reason for the popularity of buying calls and puts and its variations is quite simple; limited or defined loss against the potential for unlimited and fabulous profits. This is what has driven thousands into the options trading game. But like everything else in life there is always a trade off. While the potential for fabulous profits against limited investment exists the reality of achieving such success is restricted. It’s almost like buying a lottery ticket with the potential for winning fabulous riches. Or putting it differently, it’s also akin to going to a casino and placing bets on gaming tables with the hope that at the end of the evening you will come out with more money than you came in. As we all know there are very few winners in casinos and that is why the gaming business offers tremendous profits for the operators. But one can be an option trader and be in a similar position as the casino operator. How? By being an option writer or seller instead of a buyer. For every option that is bought in the market, there must be a seller or writer of the option. These writers are the casinos in the options business. As the option seller you take the bets from the option buyers and since 75 to 80 percent of all options in the market expire worthless, you the seller pocket the premiums paid by the buyers when the options they bought expire worthless. For the benefit of those who are not familiar with gambling casinos, the winning odds of casinos over the betting player is only around 5 percent and yet they rake in profits from this business. Now imagine this, research and studies have shown that the option writer (seller) has better than 10 to 20 percent odds over the option buyer. Option traders who successfully use the strategy of selling options consider themselves as having found the Holy Grail of Investments. And of all the variations in option selling strategies (just as many as there are in option buying), writing naked options is considered to be the Cadillac division. No other option selling system offers the profit potential of the naked writer. So why aren’t there more option writers in the market? For two reasons: There is the general belief that writing options carries the potential for unlimited losses. This has served to scare away the thousands of novice traders and those who have not been long enough traders to recognize the benefits of option writing and the many safeguards available that conquers this so-called risk. For many, options trading has become synonymous with making big profits quickly from small investments. Option sellers on the other hand, do not have the potential for outrageous profits from any single trade, and by not being a get-rich-quick proposition it is less popular to traders who are looking for big returns on their small investments. It must be noted however, that option writing is fast gaining popularity among serious investors looking to grow their wealth at a steady, consistent and secure manner regardless of market or economic conditions. For those willing to venture into this lucrative field for long term capital appreciation don’t let the first reason above frighten you into inaction. There are many ways one can protect himself and conquer the element of ‘unlimited loss’ in writing nakeds. The author of this article is one of many successful naked option sellers. He has put out an e-book detailing a trading system that uses a three pronged strategy that trounces the so-called risk of loss to be almost neglible. Information about his system can be found at his web site. |
